There is a quiet individualism in the paintings of Jonathan Gardner. Isolation is too harsh, because characters sit, gaze and stand in the same painting, but each figure seems to be in their own world, their own thoughts. And in each composition, the figures seem to be distorted visions of self, as if each are created themselves in a dreamlike scenario. With lush colors and intricate details in each work, Jonathan Gardner just opened Desert Wind at Casey Kaplan Gallery in NY, on view through April 20, 2019.
