Taku Obata is a Japanese artist and B-boy living and working just outside of Tokyo in Tokorozawa. Breakdance, graffiti, and old school hip-hop culture are core features of Taku’s life and artistic practice. His drawings are fast and figurative, a visual homage to breakdancing and motion. His most striking works are his larger than life wooden breakdancer sculptures, hard-carved futuristic characters that look like they come from Afrika Bambaataa’s futuristic world of electro-funk.
